Censorship & the Web ::
Mr Swiz had just put up a wonderfull new web site for local cartoonist d.bilos when...well, i let him tell you...
"Our server space on Eulalie.org has been wiped out, thanks to the "mature" cartoons of Carlos Santos that violated the "adult content" policy... So there will be no more Swizcorp nor Santos online for a while, until we find another server with no such policy...And don't try to contact us at any @eulalie.org adress, they wiped out all our emails too... Bastards." Mr. SWIZ
Are your ears burning? :: There is some talk of doing some articles on the Montreal Comix Scene over at TCJ. If you’re an artist from the hood or a fan on one or more of them drop by an let them know what’s what.
Call out to female comic artists, possible paying gig alert:
The Moderntales family is expanding!! ( Again! ) Lea Hernandez {girlamatic.com} is the editor/instigator of a ladies only party soon to be launched. It will be a subscription website of Female artists only on the same mould as the thus far very successful 3 year old model of moderntales.com. Sequential artists of the "Good art, solid writing, Oni-esque, minus the crime stuff" verity are asked to submit their work for consideration.
For an idea of the company you would be keeping you can check out the Moderntails family http://www.moderntales.com (the original site) http://www.adventurestrips.com http://www.serializer.net
If you are not a Female artist/storyteller but know one, tell them about this. The moderntails web sights have been very good for the artists who have worked on them so far; it's opportunity worth seriously considering and exploring.

Re: Creative teams, you say you can’t draw? You can write though…and she can draw…? So what’s there stopping you? Mix pairs? for those who are reading this: I think It's possible that mixed creative teams (M & F) will be considered, but you should check with Lea to be sure before preparing to much work for submission cus’ I’m speculating really.
Language: The sights are so far all English only so I think it's safe to say that the initial expectation of the publishers would be that the stories would be all English. But…I think it could be argued that publishing French stories, as well as other languages, might help to attract a larger, Mixed audience. For a subscription sight, especially one that uses the moderntails.com's payment system*, that the more people who sign up to read the better. Crossover can occur, if it's encouraged. I don't know that they (the publishers) would go for it, but it's worth asking. I make no guaranties of satisfaction but feel free to quote my argument if it helps.
[*You get a % of the money paid in subscription based on a point system measured by tracking the hits to you pages on the site. Popular art gets the most visitors gets the most $]
If it becomes a question of translation, you can always consider translation.
With it being online, I'd love to see it in French on the page, but have an English text at the very bottom of the page, like subtitles : ) Personally I think a lot of Americans & Anglos in general would get a huge kick out of reading comix like that, and it makes you accessible to both audiences, which is always a good thing. In print even, one run can be sold in both markets! It would just force you to chose your words carefully, so as to not overrun the page with the subtitles. Minimalist writing.
Also of course there is the whole wordless thing, which can be very cool with a good story.
