:::BOOK LAUNCH::: Just in from Andy Brown of conundrum press.
Cyclope & Cyclops, the French and English editions of the Montreal based anthologies of mostly local uber talents from the Canadian Comix scene are celebrating their latest incarnations with a launch party this February 15 from 3-8pm at Cheval Blanc, 809 Ontario E.
Cyclops features work by 25 gifted contributors, hailing from all over Canada, the vast majority from Quebec. Editors Helene Brosseau and Marc Tessier, and many of the contributors such as Michel Rabagliati, Rupert Bottenberg, Caro Caron, Leif Tande and Bernie Mireault are well known and prolific Montreal area artists, but there are also many new faces to be found.
Several of the strips are autobiographical in nature, a genre still very popular amongst Canadian comix authors. And in part due to that the urban landscape Montreal plays a starring role in many of the selections. Generally a bonus as the city, as a location, Is pure post modernist slightly euro flavoured gritty eye candy (look for Jean-Pierre Chansigaud's ‘Chers Voisins’ (I Live in St-Henri) and ‘Below the Poverty Line’ to reputedly “immortalize the particular beauty of Montreal’s neighbourhood life as finely as any novel by Gabrielle Roy or Mordecai Richler”).
