Enter Avariz is an allegory of the parasitic culture of modern capitalism, told in a tumbling arcade inspired narrative. Witness as the delightfully bouncy Boy Ugly and the other resilient residents of Zak Meadow are sold out, co-opted, harvested, test marketed, junk mailed, genetically modified, prepackaged, networked, off-gassed, discounted, and branded in the pursuit of progress by the relentless Agents of Capitalism. In Enter Avariz, Ngui has taken elements of Kafka¹s The Castle and fused them with anti-globalization politics to stunning effect.

"You should check out the smart, hip books from Montreal's Conundrum Press like Marc Ngui's Enter Avariz , a graphic-novel primer on globalization and the big-business hegemony, told and drawn with enough to make even those dead horses whinny to life. The corporate takeover of Zak Meadow has Pogo overtones, so Ngui's only being true to the genre when the meadow fellows undo the damage that always follows malls and other beasts. Resminkubators for all!" ‹ Georgia Straight

Marc Ngui has been at the forefront of the vibrant Toronto arts scene for many years, and his self-published Zak Meadow strips and narrative schemata have appeared in countless literary magazines. He recently co-edited and provided illustrations for The Canadian City Dweller¹s Almanac. He is a graduate of Waterloo¹s architecture program and brings an architect¹s understanding of setting into his work.
