This last months Montreal Comix Jam was not only the launch for yet another issue (41) of the Monthly Comix Magazine MensuHell, but also the latest Monthly Montreal Comix Jam Quarterly.
Things hit a bit of a hiccup when it was discovered at the ninth hour that the studio on 10 Ontario was lost to us, but many of the regulars and some of the summer crowd unaware of the predicament caught up with Sandra and me at the Casa del Popolo. Francis made it as well and books were handed out to everyone (in both zines cases all participants get a copy for free).
I ‘d like to take a moment here to mention that the work done at the Casa that night was INCREADABLE!
Wow.
Kudos to everyone, thanks for such a fun and inspiring night of doodling. You can watch the front page for some of the sweet pages from this jam, up already is a very fine two part jam, go see! (I don’t think the pages were intended as such but they dovetail together so nicely I decided to marry them officially, they plan to have kids.)

The latest Monthly Montreal Comix Jam Quarterly (what a mouth full) is bursting with one of the sweetest and most consistent selection of pages seen in a jam zine. The studious atmosphere of the last three gatherings resulted in slightly fewer pages (51 vs. 60+) but numbers are more than made up for buy the high average common denominator. Some samples of the work in this edition include the following pages featured on the front page as Jam’s of the week.

The Mécanique Générale collective is pleased to invite you to Chapeaux de roue; the Quebec edition (see here, here & here for info about past versions of this show).
The MG collective will be showing original comic art as well as work made in periphery of comics. EI: sketchbooks, large paintings, sculptures and other things that show the creative exploration that fuels the Collectives imaginations.
In addition a short Documentary will be presented, offering to the visitors a short interview with each of the six members as well as a visit to their studios.
The MG line of fine books will be available on site including many recently published books that represent the culmination of some of the work featured in the show, including: ‘Motus!’ by Leif Tande; ‘Les aventures de monsieur Luc Giard’, by Luc Giard; & ‘Station service 03 et Voitures’, a portfolio of serigraphy on the topic of automobiles.

L'écurie mécanique générale a le plaisir de vous convier à Chapeaux de roue version Québec. Nous accrocherons bien entendu des planches originales, mais aussi des travaux faits en périphérie du travail de bande dessinée, par exemple : carnets de croquis, peintures gigantesques, collages abstraits et meuble modifié, qui montreront bien le désir d'exploration qui nous anime. De plus, un court-métrage sera présenté en boucle, offrant aux visiteurs un bref entretien avec chacun des six membres ainsi qu'une visite de leurs ateliers. Sur place, vous pourrez vous procurer les publications de l'écurie, dont la collection « Mécanique générale » et le projet à la bonne franquette « Colosse ». Quelques nouveautés seront lancées le soir du vernissage (le 2 avril), dont Motus !, de Leif Tande, Les aventures de monsieur Luc Giard et Ticoune ze whiz Tornado 07, du tonitruant Luc Giard, Station service 04 et Voitures, un portfolio de sérigraphies sur le thème de l'automobile.

I'f you’re in Toronto this coming Thursday, March 27 @ 7pm drop by the Frecklebean Café (132 McCaul Street, North of Dundas) for the book launch of the Frecklebean: Comics and Stories . A new Toronto based anthology put together buy a group of local illustrators, storyboard artists, and designers.

::: The New Drawn and Quarterly Web Site
Put the sledgehammer and hacksaws away. It¹s time to shake the plaster from our hair and wipe the paint off our hands. Renovations on our new Drawn and Quarterly home are finally finished (more or less).
So come on in! You may discover a couple of holes we forgot to patch up or some doors that don¹t open yet. We¹ve swept up for stray typos but you never know‹let us know by emailing us with errors you spot.
Our new web site not only looks great but it¹s got more content then ever before with 145 pages of never-before-seen previews of new books and comics as well as unpublished sketches and illustrations. Also brand new is our news section and artist archives that you can check out for new updates every day. Right now it already has over 50 profiles and reviews from The New York Times, Washington Post, Guardian, Globe and Mail, National Post and Publishers Weekly.
We could never have gotten this place ship shape without our architect, Jeff Voris, and our decorator, Jan Van Der Veken. Thanks so much fellas, the place looks great.

::: Broken Pencil--Comics Issue
This spring (June) Broken Pencil will be putting out an all comics issue.
Most of the articles have been assigned already, though they say they will make space if a truly brilliant proposal comes in. Primarily they’re looking for reviewers, and say they are desperate for review material, so send them your latest comics! (or old ones if they haven’t reviewed them already) They need them ASAP! April 15th at the latest and preference will be given to early birdies.

Went to the ENTER AVARIZ book Launch.
The night was an all round success. Andy from Cunundrum Press sold enough copies on site to go home smiling, and Marc had a warm kick off on a cold night to begin his BIG TOUR (dates to come)
A nice size crowd got the privilege of listening to Marc render an amazing reading, all in character, each with it's own distinct voice, with a sound track that he orchestrated by means of a sampler.
Having see this performance Marc's comics just became that much more fun.
If he's coming by your town you really want to catch the reading, buy the book and re-enact the experience at home with the memory of the characters voices.
Some multi media from this launch will be posted later.

There is a new monthly comix jam in town, the Roy st Collective is going to be holding their own monthly Jam sessions. Instigator Jai Granofsky invites you to Join them for their first "Strip Session" this coming April 4th

:::Brad Simpson, photojournalist!
For a while now Brad, a Jam regular from way back has been documenting some of our gatherings. Our last jam came to an abrupt end as we were packing up when it was discovered that the building nextdoor was on fire! Turned out ok for our host Colin, the fire was put out before it could threaten his studio.
Brad got some nice shots of the action and the aftermath.
