CBC Arts | Canadian comic-book awards: one down, one to go
Permalink
Co: CBC Arts

"TORONTO - The inaugural Shusters – which are awards designed to recognize Canadians who work in the comic-book industry – were handed out on Saturday.

Among the winners were Kaare Andrews – who took the outstanding-artist prize for his work on Spider-Man & Doctor Octopus: Year One – and Darywn Cooke, whose DC mini-series The New Frontier earned him outstanding-cartoonist honours.

Awards were given out in six categories, with an additional six people being inducted into the Shusters hall of fame – a list headed by Joe Shuster himself, the Toronto-born artist who helped to create Superman... -- ...May 28 will see the inaugural edition of the Doug Wright Awards – which are named after the prolific newspaper and magazine cartoonist, and are also designed to honour comic professionals.

Planning for the Wrights began about two years ago. But what does it say about the state of Canadian comics that both the Shusters and the Wrights were born in 2005?" -->>
