Hey kids, Comics! News for september 2005

Currently on stands!...Sea of Red #4, GN is in from the printer and it looks sweeeet!

Currently in the works...

So i just got my copies of Sea of Red: Vol. 1: "No Grave But The Sea" very pleased!

We had a lot of trouble with the printing the second and third issues of this series. The first was great, partly cus the 2 colour printing worked well on it, but also the nice heavy paper stock we got that was a mistake on the printers part - a good one cus it showed us how much better the art looked on the heavier stock - We used that paper for the Collection and the results are great. Even like the heft gives the book.

So it's got that going for it over issues #2 to #4 in the series. But also on #2 & #3 there were some real obvious issues with shoddy printing, the black ink was fading out like a week silkscreen job halfway down some of the pages. Yuck. With the dark red ink the art got muddy in some spots.

All that is fixed now, and the heavy stock is back.

Looks so,
much,
better.

Thanks to the good paper and printing, I do see some glitches in the 2 colour process I used, things that didn't quite come out the way they should have. Nothing someone who didn’t draw it would pick up on, just stuff I tried that didn’t really translate the way I thought it would. If I come back to relive Paul for a future story ark - quite possible - I look forward to taking another crack at the style with more time in the schedule to get it to look more the way I’d like.

But don't get me wrong, I’m happy. Getting to see the full run of the story in one big 100 page Graphicnovel is a real kick! I hope our readers like it - I'm please as punch, the places where things were not 100% were still good, nothing too cringe worthy got in, managed to keep up a good run - especially when i consider the setting it was done in.

Anywho, so that closes this chapter of Sea of Red for me. Paul is doing some nice stuff; I’m sure he will pick up the torch and out do me. I’m kind of counting on it in fact, this is one of the first book I owned a piece of that looks like it has gained a real fan following, so hopefully it will have a nice long run. ;D

Meanwhile, I have a new comics gig. I’m Drawing, too cool...

Planet of the Apes!

:)
really good gig, I loved the old films, and we have a cool plot line going for Revolution on the Planet of the Apes, filling in the gap between the first night of Caesar's revolt in century city in Conquest, and the eventual rule of the apes that follows a few generations later. I liked POTA more than star wars in the end, so this is a nice job to be picking up for me for sure.

There’s a web site here for the brand new publisher handling the project, Mr Comics! And here is a bit of a blurb in the current edition of All the Rage where our noble editor, cartooning machine himself Ty Templeton, gives a rundown on what we are up to. More ink to be found at Sequential here too. There will be much more info on the way soon.

For now, here is a sneak peek at the work I’m doing on the books. And for more, go to the Mr Comics site and see what the other artists are doing too. On Pota im working with Tom Fowler, Attila Adorjany, Bernie Mireault, & Gabriel Morrisette to name a few. We have Painted covers by Denis Rodier.
