Ryan Carriere 1973-2005

Popped up Sequential today, getting ready to move it to it's own url and was wondering what the latest news was, and top of the page was this. Christ. Bloody cars, all of them, and I do mean all of them should be scraped for raw material. And on the heals of my own close call this really gets under my skin all the more.

Ryan was a bit younger than me, had two kids and a wife who loved him, & he made some cool looking comics [1][2].

I don’t think I ever met him, not sure, which sucks cus now I never will. His life was cut way to sort, probably because someone was in a hurry to get home or yakking on a phone or something when they should not have been paying attention to the road.

I don’t know, maybe he wasn’t looking himself, but if the urban planers were even half competent at their jobs, he would have been in his own bike lane with a proper road divider keeping him relatively safe. God damn cars.

Shawn Micallef shared his personal encounter with the accident here. I’ve noticed that some days it seems like everyone is passing on the shit and driving extra aggressively. I tend to drop of the arteries and head for the roads I know are out of the way and quiet then, but sometimes you cant help but share space with people who really seem to have had a mental brake and think it’s ok to even threaten a cyclist. Fucking shit head, don’t care how nice you are the rest of the time, if you have ever been behind the wheel and made ANY kind of threatening gesture towards a cyclist or pedestrian you should have your license withheld and have to attend some very uncomfortable classes during work hours so EVERY one know you’ve been a shit head. Nothing like public embarrassment to set people strait.

Something to remind them to be a mentsh.

Any way, Shawn also makes a good point about the apparent skewed priorities in city hall in TO as well.

Me, I’m voting for this guy myself on Sunday.

If you want to give your condolences or simply show solidarity, there will be a Candlelight Memorial 'for a cyclist' 7:00 p.m., Monday November 7th in Tornoto

PS: tried to post this two days ago but the blogger engine was erroring out and not letting this go live. In that time.......Wow, in regards to Shawn’s blog post, I’m astounded at what some people think is okie dokie.... i posted what I thought was a very mild note with info about the actual rules of the road for cyclists for a driver who seemed to be vague on them. Well.....seems smoking pot behind the weal and enjoying speed in the city in a ton of steel is just dandy, but cyclists riding double to a lane is not....fuck me.
