Cus it's Easter...
...i was unable to get my copy of the proofs for SOR#1 today like i was supposed to :(, but down in ol' San Fran Eric at Image got their copy, and it looks all good. So it's off, look for issue one in your local shop next week! It could be coming out Thursday if Diamond takes Monday off. It's printed on off white/yellow paper, giving it a classy antique feel. and we ended up going with an Indian Red for the colour. Here are some quick scans from image of the proofs to see how it looks basically.

Sea of red book 1 delayed at printers
So it seems that unavoidably the first issue of Sea of Red will be delayed by one week. Complications with the two colour printing process had to be sorted out, first run technical confusion. Had a problem with pantone codes that didn’t give the same results on the other end, and broken telephone email misunderstandings. Good news is I got on the horn with the printers myself and its all good now, but we lost too much time to make the 21’st, so it’s shipping the on 28th. Sorry folks. At least this way you wont have to wait long for book two! Meanwhile, here is a way way advance peek at 3. These are the pencils I do from Kieron’s rough layouts. [though these in particular are pretty heavily modified, location continuity, and ease of execution concerns led to me making a lot of changes here]. I print these onto Bristol in a light colour and do the inks and washes over that. Ill be making select art from the books available for sale when # one comes out, if your interested in owning the finished B&W artwork from Sea of Red drop me a line and i'll add you to an advanced notice mailing list.

a cool new art blog

"Drawn! site is a multi-author blog devoted to illustration, art, cartooning and drawing. Its purpose is to inspire creativity by sharing links and resources." Very nice, this was founded by John Martz, and includes some impressive names in the masthead.

journal entry
Pheew, I am wiped. And still a big pile of work to do before the 10th when I have to have book 2 out the door. Oh boy. Apparently we had two earthquakes in the last week, I would have been up at my desk when this happened, and while they woke the famously light sleeping a.j. I didn’t even notice them! Some interesting developments with the book, a back story issue is being planed for #5 of Sea of Red and we’ve taken aboard a really amazing artist from LA for it, I’ll make announcements when I’ve checked in and know it’s cool to do so. This is doubly good cus’ it’ll buy me a bit of breathing room on the schedule. Was supposed to go in for some part time job interviews this week but I think I may cancel them as it looks like there will be enough earnings from the first issue at least to secure things. Will be needing to move soon and that may yet require my having a ‘day job’ to make a landlord happy, at least a t first when I have to sign a lease, but it’s still a month or so before that’s probably going to happen –waiting on the spring/end of school year for the students to clear out, always the best time to find a decent deal on an apt in this town. Still might be good to go for the interviews, but then I also need every second this week with this deadline looming. Dilemmas dilemmas. Another thing been thinking about is teaching, sequential art most likely. And maybe going to school myself? Well see, lot to think about and a lot to draw in the interim.

SOR on CBR again!
Cool, Rick just pointed this out to me, comicbookresources.com is running a cover feature on the creative process we're using on Sea of Red. Showing the raw script by Rick, the breakdowns by Kieron and the finished pages by me for the first few pages of book 2, so you can compared it all side-by-side here [SCRIPT-TO-COMPLETION: A UNIQUE LOOK AT "SEA OF RED" #2]. If you want to let Rick or the gang at image know what you think, leave a note for them on the image message boards here.
