Is that building a real one? I seem to recognize it-
Thanks Catbuglah
It was a real one. The story is set in Chicago, so I researched the area, wicker park, and found photos of one that was about to be demolished. The cafe and fire escape didn’t exist, along with other liberties, but the basic building is the same. I like the idea of using it, being a building that no longer exists keeps this both rooted in fantasy and reality at the same time.
Talk about good timing - finding the reference when you did - it reminded me of a building on Cherrier - but then I realized there are similar buildings in many Montreal neighbourhoods - cool 40's/50's look -
Demolition - The Kinks
I spy with my little eye
Anything here that I can buy.
I see a little thatched cottage
Looking so neat
With compulsory purchase we can buy it up cheap.
Then we'll pull up the floor boards,
Knock down the walls,
Rock the foundations,
Until the house falls.
Like a pack of cards,
Crashing to the ground.
Then we'll build a row
Of identical boxes
And sell them all off at treble the profits.
Demolition.
It is a beautiful facade, and did look very Montreal to me, even though it isn't. Great atmosphere!
